I have over a decade of experience in working with writers, directors, and artists, to help them take their ideas and turn them into completed projects with distribution. I love working with filmmakers to help them find the right way to have their voices heard.
If you’re deciding how to make your film in the current marketplace, need creative or budgetary advise on a script, or are at any other stage of the process and need someone with experience to help guide you - I am happy to offer consultations based off my extensive experience in the industry.
There is no one way to make a film. Every project is as unique as the person making it. What I can offer is real world advice on what it takes to accomplish your goals and make your film, your way.
Talk About Your Film: We can discuss you project and your filmmaking needs. This can involve anything from creative concerns, choosing the right project for your goals, casting, crewing up, financing, or a range of other topics.
Script Consulting: This begins by understanding your goals for your script. We will start with a 15 minute conversation. Once we've done that and I've read your work, depending on which option you select, I will either e-mail you back notes or we will set a time to Zoom and talk about your project's needs.
Budgeting: If you have a project and you’re trying to figure out how much to make it for, I am happy to review your content, talk to you about your creative goals and advise on a price point.
For a Completed Budget - If you're in need of a budget, depending on my availability, I may be able to provide.

"Mali Elfman is a true creative producer: astute in her story sense, giving valuable critical feedback, but also taking into account all aspects of production that come together to make a film. She has helped shape my screenplay drafts to get them to more producible budget levels without sacrificing essential elements of story or style. I have been lucky to work with her in both the writing and directing phases of my projects, and hope to have the chance to do so many times over again." - Laura Moss (Writer/Director, BIRTH/REBIRTH)
"Mali has been invaluable to my filmmaking career. She worked with me on two short films and then produced by feature directorial debut "The Party's Just Beginning." I look forward to the projects we have in development and I would highly recommend Mali for any creative input." - Karen Gillan (Actor/Writer/Director JUMANJI, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY)
Mali Elfman is an award winning Writer and Director, as well as a BAFTA nominated Producer. She began her career with her micro-budget feature film DO NOT DISTURB (released by Warner Brothers, 2010). Since then she’s produced many films including Karen Gillan’s THE PARTY’S JUST BEGINNING (The Orchard, 2018), Mike Flanagan’s BEFORE I WAKE (NetFlix, 2018) and most recently Laura Moss's BIRTH/REBIRTH (IFC/Focus, 2023).
She was formerly the Head of Production for Fun Size Horror which distributed over 300 short horror films through Alamo Drafthouse, Amazon, Hulu and were premiered at film festivals worldwide. In her three years there she produced more than 45 films herself. By doing this she not only built a strong network of crew, locations and talent but she also developed her relationships with numerous first time directors that she would then develop their materials into features.
Elfman also tested out her own skills as a director, making 3 short films at her company before finally making NEXT EXIT. Her award winning debut feature film as a writer and director premiered at Tribeca Film Festival and was distributed theatrically by Magnolia Pictures in 2022.
Her films have played at many different film festivals; ranging from the prestigious Sundance, Tribeca and London Film Festival to the beloved genre specific festivals Fantasia, Sitges, Overlook and many more. She’s been on the jury for the Philadelphia Film Fest and the Palm Springs Film Festival.
She has also produced several live events, including Mark Danielewski’s “The Fifty Year Sword” at the REDCAT theater, three iterations of the Immersive Horror Experience for Overlook Film Festival, "The Mobius Strip" for Alamo Drafthouse, the award winning ARCANA amidst the Covid pandemic and most recently “The Shape of the Night”, which after a sold out run, looks to return to LA.
She has been selected for Tribeca and Chanel’s "Through Her Lens" Grant (2019), the Cannes Film Festival’s “Breaking Through the Lens” Program (2020) and for Variety’s “2023 Producers to Watch” list.
Mali is a lover of all things film and fights to tell stories that she believes help people. No matter what the genre, her goal is to help filmmakers with important messages be heard. Her skills involve being able to run teams, put together financing, gather resources and talent, and help bring monsters to the big screen and keep them off her productions.
